My videos are slow to load. Why?

Several factors can affect the speed at which videos load, the majority of which are linked to the speed of your computer and the speed of your internet connection.

The number one cause of slow video loading, or buffering, is poor network connectivity. This may be a problem with your network, or but may be caused by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) being overloaded. This is especially likely during peak usage hours.

In addition, a video player needs a certain amount of video buffered into its memory before it can play. If it doesn't have enough network bandwidth to buffer as much as it needs to, the player will keep trying but never succeed at playing the video stream. Issues that could prevent you from having enough bandwidth for buffering include:

  • A slow network connection (such as a dial-up modem)
  • Too many services or applications using your local network (e.g., watching video while downloading files and surfing the Internet)
  • Too many people using the local network

If you have previously played the stream successfully but are currently experiencing problems, try clearing the history and cache in your browser.

Lack of memory or a slow processor can also cause video to stutter or not play at all. Try closing other programs while viewing our video. If it is older, your computer may simply be too slow to play the stream, in which case we would recommend you view the text version of the property script by clicking the ‘transcripts’ button (see our icons guide for more information), or by clicking the ‘More Details’ link in the player window, to view a text version of the property brochure.

I can’t view the online magazines or newsletters, or they are slow to load. Why?

As with videos, the magazines require a certain speed of computer and internet connection in order to achieve maximum performance. Please read through the answer to ‘My videos aren’t loading, or are buffering and are very slow to play. Why?’ in order to eliminate these factors as a possible cause for your problems.

In addition, the magazines and newsletters displayed on this site require you to download the latest version of flash player in order to view them successfully. It may be that your flash player is an old version, or simply that you have not downloaded flash to your computer? The latest version of flashplayer can be download from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

How do I search for properties on this site?

There are two ways to search for properties on our TV site; either by clicking on the ‘Property’ tab above, or by using the drop down menu to the left hand side of the screen. In both instances you will be asked to select an office location which most closely represents the centre of your property search area. You can also stipulate a price bracket for your search. Your results will be brought up as a list of thumbnail images, which can each be clicked on to view the walkthrough video and associated details of the property in question. Every time I click on a property video, it starts with an advert. Can I avoid this?

Every property on our TV site is sponsored by a distinguished local business whose short advertising pre and post roll adverts wrap around their chosen property. Whilst it is not possible to skip this part of the video presentation, it is worth bearing in mind that these valued local advertisers are chosen for the exceptional level of service they offer, and if you are thinking of moving to the area you may well want to learn more about them. Furthermore, if you buy or sell a property listed on our TVsite, your sponsored advertiser will contact you personally to offer you special offers and discounts to their products and services, exclusive to their sponsored buyers and sellers.

My ‘latest properties’ list keeps deleting itself – how can I avoid this?

If you regularly delete cookies from your computer, or clear your browsing history, you will find that you are also clearing your ‘latest property’ lists. To avoid this happening, refrain from deleting your cookies and browsing history until you have completed all your online property searches.

When I start a property search, a property video starts playing. Can I avoid this?

As soon as you have selected your search criteria, and the search has been completed within our properties database, your site will automatically begin to play the video associated with first property generated by your search. If you are not interested in this property however, simply click the pause button in the bottom left hand side of the video player, and select a more appropriate property from the search results.

Can I view the videos in full screen?

Yes. To view a video in full screen, simply hover your mouse over the video in question, and click the ‘Full Screen’ button that will appear in the top right hand side of the video player.

Can I broaden my property search to include multiple offices?

Yes. When you are selecting an office from the dropdown menu to the right hand side of the screen, hold down the ‘Ctrl’ button on your keyboard. This will allow you to select multiple destinations and expand your search criteria.

The lifestyle directory is a bit confusing; how does it work?

The lifestyle directory is designed to give you a great insight into an array of luxury products and services offered by businesses both locally and nationally. The directories are divided into specialist lifestyle categories, such as ‘kitchens’, ‘cars’, and ‘schools’, which each contain a series of videos from businesses specialising in that particular area in your region.

To browse the directories, simply click on the relevant title from the pictorial menu at the bottom of the screen, and you will be directed through to a sub-menu listing all the service providers within that lifestyle category. Each listing includes a short video which will give you a greater insight into the products and services offered by that particular company, and also includes contact details to h allow you to link directly to that supplier should you wish to arrange viewings, test drives, sample products, or showroom visits.
